Mustang 1965 289 V8 Fastback (ECD 476C)
The 1965 Ford Mustang 289 V8 Fastback is widely regarded as the most desirable Mustang shape—the pure, original fastback before the model grew larger in later years. What makes this example so special is its exceptional originality: still finished in its factory Ivy Green metallic with black interior, complete with its skinny wheels, baroque trims and whitewall tyres, just as it left the dealership in 1965. Its provenance is equally impressive, with only five owners since new—two in America and three in England after its arrival in 2005, where it was lovingly kept in a heated garage as part of a cherished collection. Few fastbacks remain this correct, this authentic, or this well-preserved.
The artwork uses bright, expansive watercolour washes to evoke the hot, clear skies of the American West Coast—the cultural landscape that gave birth to the Mustang—while subtle urban tones hint at its long life across continents. The warm oranges, cool sky blues and sun-bleached gradients create a sense of heat, movement and nostalgia, allowing the car to emerge through colour like a memory. This palette celebrates both the iconic fastback silhouette and the remarkable history that makes this particular Mustang truly unique.
