Inspired by the resident heron at Bath Stream, where it flows into the Thames near my home and where our dogs love to swim, I wanted to capture the quiet intensity of this elusive bird stalking through the reeds. Using the rich colours and expressive textures of oil pastel, I explored the contrast between deep shadows and fleeting reflections, allowing the heron's piercing eye to draw the viewer into its secretive world.
